Depth and duration are two different tests.

The questionnaire asks what you would do at minus 20. Almost none ask what you would do in month 14 of flat. Both need an honest answer before you pick anything.

Duration is where plans quietly die. Panic selling is dramatic and rare. Quiet quitting is common. The paused SIP. The small withdrawal that was going to be temporary. Nobody calls it selling at the bottom. The compounding stops all the same.

If you are still accumulating, the long flat stretch is the discount window. Every instalment below the old high buys cheaper units. It only pays if you keep buying through it.
