The sum insured is the ceiling. The room clause is the throttle.
01
A room rent cap is not just a limit on the bed. Cross it and the insurer settles every linked charge in the same proportion. The bed is the small part. The surgery riding on it is the big one. One line quietly resizes the whole cover.
02
The cap lives in the policy wording, not on the sum insured. A 5 lakh cover with a 1 pct daily cap can pay like 2.5 the day you want a better room. Read for no room rent capping, or a single private room with no sub limit, before you read the cover figure.
03
A bigger sum insured does not fix a low room cap. They are different dials. A 10 lakh policy with the same 1 pct cap has the same trapdoor. Raise the room eligibility, not just the headline number.
The figure on the brochure is what you are covered for. The room rent clause is what you actually collect. Read the second before you trust the first.
