How to read past it
Three ways to see through a launch date.
01
Match the window before the number. Two since inception figures can cover 6 years and 15. That is a sprint next to a marathon. Read the same 1, 3 and 5 year lines instead.
02
Ask what the fund was born into. A fund launched just after a crash wears the bounce as skill. Check the regime around the launch NAV. A great first year is a birthday, not a process.
03
You cannot buy a past start date. The only money you can invest earns the return from here forward. Since inception is history you were never in the room for.
Since inception answers a question you cannot act on. Ask what both funds did across the years you could actually have owned them.
Line funds up on the same window, not the same ad.
