The Tanmay Edge, Season 2, EP34, Thursday 7 May 2026, 10:09. Sensex weekly expiry day, open implied 78,500 right at the cap

## Scorecard

Grade 5/5 (100 percent): 5 hit, 0 partial, 0 mechanical, 0 miss. Graded the next trading day, 8 May 2026, against NSE settlement.

The call: Sensex Expiry

## Chapters

### 1. Cold open: the trap (about 0:00, estimated)

FIIs are short 1,94,099 index futures contracts. 1,99,420 short calls. The market gave them a +1.24 percent rally yesterday and they covered 4014. 4014. That is 2 percent of their book.

Today is Sensex expiry. The chain doesn't lie. This is The Tanmay Edge.

### 2. Intro sting: season 2 episode 34 (about 0:22, estimated)

India's pre market edge. Five minutes. Every trading day. Tanmay Kurtkoti. Season 2. Episode 34. Let's go.

### 3. Global cues: Asia on fire, crude collapsed (about 0:31, estimated)

Picture this. Tuesday afternoon FIIs sold 3622 crore in cash and walked into the deepest short of the month at minus 1,98,113 index futures contracts. They went home short. They went home confident.

Wednesday opened. Sensex bottomed at 76,773 around 1 PM. Then the news hit. US Iran peace talks. Crude collapsing minus 8 percent. Rate cut whispers. Bank Nifty ripped +2.74 percent. Sensex closed 77,958.52 plus 940 points off the lows. The FIIs covered 4014. That is not a cover. That is a flinch.

US closed strong. Dow Fut 49,961. S and P 500 7365. Nasdaq 25,838. Plus 2.02 percent on the tech tape. Europe finished green. FTSE CAC DAX all up plus 2 percent.

Asia is on fire this morning. Nikkei plus 5.67 percent and plus 3371 points in a single session. Hang Seng plus 1.47. Taiwan plus 2.18. Strongest Japan day in months.

Brent 101.71. Flat. The crude collapse holds. Dollar Index 97.96 soft. Rupee strengthened 70 bps to 94.61. India 10 year yield down to 6.94 percent. Rate cut signal hard coded.

GIFT Nifty around 24,500. Plus 170 points versus Nifty close. Sensex implied open near 78,500. Right at the cap. Not above the pin. At the wall. That is the setup we walk into.

### 4. FII trap in full: three on one math (about 2:10, estimated)

FII book in full. Index futures net short 1,94,099. They were minus 1,98,113 Tuesday. Covered 4014 on a +1.24 percent day. 2 percent of their book.

Options louder. Short 1,99,420 calls. Covered 88,044 in one session. Biggest single day call cover in May. Long plus 3,56,403 puts. Trimmed 25,888. Net F and O bias still bearish, marginally unwinding. 7.5 lakh contracts of bearish stack walking into expiry.

Who's on the other side. Client long 1,30,228 futures. Retail bullish. DII long 29,993. Domestic bullish. Pro long 29,382. Prop bullish. FII is the only net short in the room. Three out of four players bullish. One player bearish. Expiry today. That math has only one outcome.

Cash flow Tuesday. FII sold 3622 crore. DII bought 2603 crore. Cumulative May. DII net buyer 7367 crore. FII net seller. Wednesday cash data publishes 8 PM tonight.

Structural. DII holds 20.9 percent of Nifty 500. Record high. FII at 17.1 percent. Multi year low. Q1 calendar year FIIs pulled minus 15.8 billion dollars. DII poured plus 27.2 billion dollars sticky SIP money. It is not their market anymore. They are trading inside someone else's tape, against someone else's flow, and they are positioned wrong.

The trap is set. The squeeze hasn't started.

### 5. The chain has voted: pin 78,000, cap 78,500 (about 3:55, estimated)

What did the chain do while the FIIs were flinching. It voted. Hard.

78,000 has 2.44 million combined OI stacked at one strike. Bigger than the next two strikes combined. Put writers added plus 1.14 million contracts in a single session. Not hedging. Conviction. Call writers covered 2,11,560 at the same level. Both sides agreed. Settle here.

Below. 77,500. 1.45 million put OI. Put writers added plus 1.25 million in one day. Biggest single day put write on the entire chain. Floors don't get more conviction backed than that.

Above. 78,500. 1.20 million call OI. Call writers added plus 3,09,540 here. The cap. That is where we are opening.

Implied range. 78,000 straddle trades 665.75. CE 420.05 plus PE 245.70. Plus minus 665 points is the market's price for today. Implied band 77,335 to 78,665. 78,500 cap is already inside what the chain expected. 79,000 is just 335 points above the upper breakeven.

Gamma flip 78,100. We are opening plus 400 points above flip. Above flip dealers are long gamma. Pin behavior reinforces. Unless 78,500 breaks. If it does 1.20 million call writers are forced to cover. They buy futures, push price up, the squeeze accelerates. 79,000 cannot be ruled out if that wall breaks in the first hour.

Chain shifted bullish in one session. Put writers added plus 18.5 million OI today versus call writers plus 5.8 million. PCR 1.26. The chain is voting up.

7.5 lakh contracts of bearish stack walking into an open at the cap with the straddle pricing 78,665 as a normal day. The trap isn't theoretical. The trap is the trade.

### 6. Sectors + broader market: where the real money lives (about 6:06, estimated)

What was actually leading yesterday. Not IT. IT was the laggard plus 0.55 percent. Not Reliance. Down minus 1.80 percent, the biggest weight dragging the index. Not FMCG. The only red sector minus 0.26 percent.

It was the cyclicals. PSU Bank plus 2.84. Realty plus 2.63. Auto plus 2.41. Pharma plus 2.30. Bank Nifty plus 2.74. Every sector that benefits from cheaper energy and a softer rupee outlook lit up. Banks rallying on rate cut whispers. Realty on lower yields. Autos on cheaper inputs. The crude collapse wasn't a headline. It was a sector rotation in real time.

Bond market agreed. India 10 year yield fell 10 bps to 6.94 percent. Not a one day move. The rate cut signal. Hard coded.

Silver on MCX plus 3.88. Gold flat. Silver leading metals. That divergence shows up before industrial demand picks up. Watch it.

The move that matters most for you. The broader market. Midcap 100 plus 1.76 percent. Smallcap 250 plus 1.81. Both up nearly plus 2 percent. MidSmall IT and Telecom plus 3.06. The broader market is where the second leg lives. Sensex today is going to be a tug of war between the pin and the cap with 79,000 in the conversation. But the real money, the money that compounds, is moving outside the index frame.

### 7. Education + verdict: pin risk, two scenarios, buy on dips (about 7:50, estimated)

Quick one on pin risk. When a strike has more open interest than the next 3 combined, like 78,000 has 2.44 million today, the chain becomes a magnet. Gravity pulls price to the strike. But gravity breaks when another heavy strike is right above and gets tested at the open. 78,500's 1.20 million call wall. That is the gravity breaker.

Today's path. Open at 78,500. At the wall. Two scenarios. One. Price holds above 78,500 for the first hour. Call writers cover. Squeeze accelerates. 79,000 in play. Two. Rejection at 78,500 and fade back to 78,000. Chain pins. Vol crushes.

My read. Buy on dips. FIIs trapped short. Chain bullish pinned. Yields falling. Crude collapsed. Cyclicals leading. Every dip into 78,000 to 78,200 zone is a structural buy. If 78,500 holds and we squeeze, 79,000 cannot be ruled out. That is the upside. Keep one eye on the broader market. Midcap and Smallcap up nearly plus 2 percent yesterday. That is where the real trade is today.

### 8. RupeeCase read + CTA (about 9:11, estimated)

RupeeCase Nifty 50 model. Last rebal Monday. Plus 0.24 percent since rebal versus Nifty plus 0.89. Soft minus 65 bps on the day. Lifetime alpha plus 16.30 percent. CAGR 15.87 percent. SHRIRAMFIN plus 4.79 since rebal. Financials leadership flowing through. ONGC and POWERGRID dragged on the crude collapse. Cost of being a quant model in a sharp commodity move. Rotation will catch up. Next rebal 1 June.

That is your edge for today. If this added value share it with one trader who needs it right now. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Never miss a session. I am building RupeeCase. India's systematic investing terminal. Link in the show notes. You just got earlier. See you tomorrow.

## Transcript

A very good morning guys. FISR shot 1,94,000 index futures contracts. 1,99,000 short calls. 24% rally yesterday and they covered 4000. Yes, correct. 4000. That's 2% of their book. Today is Sensex expiry. The chain doesn't lie. This is the Tanmay Edge. India's pre -market edge. Every trading day. I am Tanmay Gurthakuti. Season 2. Episode 34. Let's go. So picture this. On Tuesday afternoon, the FIS sold 3622 crore in cash. Tuesday, close. They were sitting on the deepest short position of the main month.

1,98,000. Index futures short. Cash sold. Futures shorted. Calls returned. Puts loaded. They went home short. They went home confident. Then Wednesday opened. Sensex bottomed at 76,773. , the news hit. -Iran peace talks grinding traction. Crew collapsed almost 8%. Rate cut whispers started getting louder. Bank Nifty ripped. 74%. Sensex closed at almost 78,000 plus 940 points of the loss. The FIS covered 4000 contracts. That's not a cover. That's a flinch. While they were flinching, the world kept rallying. US closed extremely strong.

4%. 46%. NASDAQ almost 2%. So Europe finished green across the board. FTSE was up by 2%. TAC was up by almost 3%. 07%. And today morning, Asia is on fire. 67% in a single session. The strongest Japan day in... 71. Basically, flat and crashed from yesterday. Gold at 4701 neutral. Dollar index below that 98 dollar mark. 61. 94%. That's a rate cut signal hard -coded. And then, Gift Nifty is trading around 24,500. That's 170 points versus Nifty's close of 24,331 that yesterday we saw.

Sensex improved. Applied open should be around roughly around 78,400 to 500 each. That's right at the cap, not above the pin at the wall. But and the setup we walk into is extremely important. But before that, the FII trap in full. Let me give you a FII book that was present last night. Index futures net short 1,94,000. They were 1,98,000 on Tuesday. That's the headline. The options book is louder. Short calls 1,99,000. They covered 88,000 in one session. Long puts 3,56,000.

They trimmed around 25,000 contracts on that. 5 lakh contracts which are short, which are still present on the index. Now look at who's on the other side. Clients long 1,30,000 futures. Retail is positioned long. 4 million combined open interest stacked at one strike That's bigger than the next two strikes combined. 14 million contracts on 78,000 strike. That's not hedging, that's conviction. Call writers have covered almost 2 lakh contracts at the same level. Both sides agree, settle here. 25 million in one day.

Okay, so floors don't get more conviction back. 2 million call over. Call writers added around 3 lakh contracts over here, the cap. That's where we are opening. So forget the box framing for a second. We are not opening at the pin. We are opening at the wall. Now about the implied range. The 78,000 straddle trades at 665. Call at 420, put at 245. That's the market's pricing for tomorrow's expected move. So the implied range becomes around 78,700 on the upside and on the bottom.

74 every sector that benefits from cheaper energy and a softer rupee outlook it is up the crude collapse was a macro headline it was a sector rotation in real time Banks rallying on rate cut whispers. Realty rallying on lower yields. Autos rallying on cheaper input cost. And a bond market as well as it agreed. 88%. Gold was flat at 1,52,219. Silver is leading in the metals and keep a watch on that. But here's that matters most for you. The broader market.

76% yesterday. 81. Both nearly 2% up. Mid cap small. 5 million contracts the chain becomes a magnet gravity pulls price to the strike that's the math but gravity breaks when another strike has heavy call right above it and that strike gets tested at open so 78 500 will get tested that gravity breaker if it holds pin behavior wins if it breaks call writer covering forces a squeeze out today so today's path we open at 78 500 at the wall two scenarios scenario one price holds about 78 500 for the first star call writers cover squeeze accelerates to 79 000 in the play scenario two price gets rejected around 78 500 to 600 and fade back slowly towards that 78 000 mark the chain pins wall crushes here's my read for today buy on dips still continues and we are doing it fis are trapped short the Chain is bullish pinned.

Yields are falling. Crude has collapsed. Cyclicals are leading. Every dip into 78,000 zone is a structural buy. If 78,500 holds and we squeeze above that 78700, one standard deviation range, 79,000 cannot be ruled out. That's the upside trade. Keep an eye on the broader market, mid cap and small cap. Nearly 2% up. 89%. But the lifetime alpha still stands. com india systematic investing terminal link is present in the show notes you just got earlier guys see you all tomorrow once again happy expiry trading
