How It Works

  1. Step 1 | Universe Start from Nifty Smallcap 250 filtered to stocks priced under ₹5000.
  2. Step 2 | Rank Score every stock in the universe by a momentum composite (price trend over multiple lookbacks, risk-adjusted). The top names by score become the candidate list.
  3. Step 3 | Select Hold the top 50 names by score. Equal-weight across the book so no single name dominates.
  4. Step 4 | Rebalance Every 2 weeks the model re-runs end-to-end. Names that fall out of the top 50 are sold; new entrants are bought. You see the full holdings list at every rebalance.

Who This Is For

Suitable for
investors who want growth but read a 25 percent drawdown as opportunity not panic
Suggested allocation
20 to 40 percent of equity capital
Time horizon
5 years or longer. Drawdowns of 22% have happened in the backtest and can happen again. Capital you might need within 12 months should not be here.
Capital required
₹215317 minimum. This buys roughly one share of every holding at current prices. Investing more buys fractions of additional units and tightens the model's expected behaviour.

Why This Strategy

Fifty stocks from the Nifty Smallcap 250 universe, equal-weighted at roughly 2 percent each, rebalanced every 2 weeks. The growth amplifier on the lineup. Pure small-cap momentum with no large-cap or mid-cap dilution.

The 5-year backtest produced a cumulative return of 462.93% against the Nifty 50's 59.62%. CAGR 41.26%. Sharpe 1.59. Best-in-cap-segment volatility profile at 23.51% (versus Microcap's 24.09% on a similar universe size).

Highest single calendar year on the lineup was 2023 at +112.7%. Small-cap regime drawdowns are real (2025 closed -8.7%) but recoveries are faster than mid-cap: the deepest drawdown was only 14.32% over 70 days, shallower than Midcap's 24.87% over 322 days. Diversification across 50 small-cap names is what keeps drawdowns shallow despite the universe's volatility.

This is the smallcap-only conviction trade. For an investor who wants the 250-ranked-and-below names (India's emerging-leader pipeline, the place where 5x-10x compounders typically start), 50 stocks rotated every 2 weeks is the cleanest expression on the lineup. Sized as 10 to 25 percent of equity is the institutional default.

CAGR 41.26% versus Nifty's 9.80%. Sharpe 1.59. Max drawdown 22.34%. Volatility 23.51%. Min 215317.
