01How it works

In plain words.

A delivery trade pays a government tax (STT) on both sides, exchange and SEBI charges on both sides, stamp duty on the buy, brokerage per order, a depository charge when shares leave your demat, and 18% GST on the service charges. STT and stamp duty carry no GST.

The formula

STT = 0.1% x buy value + 0.1% x sell valueExchange = 0.00307% of each side (NSE, including IPFT); SEBI fee = Rs 10 per crore of each sideStamp duty = 0.015% of the buy valueGST = 18% x (brokerage + exchange + SEBI fee + DP charge)

02Worked example

The default numbers, by hand.

Rs 1 lakh bought and sold, Rs 20 brokerage an order, Rs 15 DP charge: STT Rs 200, brokerage Rs 40, exchange Rs 6.14, SEBI fee Rs 0.20, stamp duty Rs 15, GST Rs 11.04, DP Rs 15. Total about Rs 287, or 0.29% of the trade value.

03Key concepts

What to know before you use it.

The largest charge

For a delivery trade at a flat brokerage, STT is usually the largest charge: 0.1% each side, collected by the exchange for the government on every trade.

Where the RupeeCase fee fits

RupeeCase charges 0.2% of traded value per rebalance. The broker’s brokerage, STT and the charges above apply to the trades as they would to any trade.

Good to know

  • Brokerage and DP charges differ by broker; check your broker’s tariff sheet.
  • BSE charges differ slightly from NSE.
  • Intraday and F&O trades have different STT and stamp duty rates.

04Assumptions

  • Equity delivery on NSE; rates as of 12 Oct 2026.
  • Brokerage and DP charge are inputs because they vary by broker.
  • The NSE charge includes the investor protection fund (IPFT) contribution; rounding is ignored.
