Where it is

ScreenPortfolio, More optionsBasic

More options on a portfolio that is Up to date: Change strategy (or Link to a strategy for one with none). The sheet "Link to a marketplace strategy" lists strategies with the same benchmark.

Index in this video: Energy Basket (strategy page).

What it means

Pick a strategy and a confirmation explains: its configuration will be managed by the strategy going forward; "Holdings carry over, the next rebalance adjusts only the differences (no forced sell-all/rebuy)"; edits to the strategy then apply to this portfolio. Nothing is bought or sold when you link. At the next rebalance, stocks the new strategy does not hold are sold and its own picks are bought. If the new strategy holds a universe in more than one sleeve, the app asks which sleeve your holdings continue as.

The formula

Only strategies with the same benchmark can be linked. Holdings stay; the next rebalance trades the difference.

As computed in the RupeeCase app
Allowed: portfolio Up to date; strategy active; same benchmark
On link: no orders; the portfolio follows the new strategy's settings
Next rebalance: sell what the new strategy does not hold, buy its picks

Worked example

Example only

  • Portfolio on Allcap, 50 stocks; link to Large Midcap
  • At once: no trade; the 50 stocks stay
  • Next rebalance: the stocks Large Midcap does not hold are sold

How to read it

  • "Currently linked" marks the strategy it follows now.
  • Dynamic or Static says how the strategy picks its list.
  • Only a portfolio that is Up to date can change strategy; a busy one waits.

Watch out

  • The confirmation does not say so, but stocks outside the new strategy are sold at its next rebalance.
  • Selling at the next rebalance can mean charges and tax on gains.
  • Only strategies with the same benchmark are offered.
