Where it is
ScreenHoldings tab, CompositionBasic
The Holdings tab, Composition card, Market cap view (strategy and portfolio). The Cap segment group in the Marketplace Filters. The Compare with picker and the Customise benchmark list group the indices. Basic and Advanced.
Indices in this video: Allcap (strategy page) and Large Cap Multi Asset (the sample portfolio).
What it means
A stock's band comes from the NSE index it belongs to: NIFTY 100 is large cap, NIFTY MIDCAP 150 mid cap, NIFTY SMALLCAP 250 small cap and NIFTY MICROCAP 250 micro cap. ETFs, funds, anything outside those indices and any stock without class data fall in Other. The strip shows each band's share of the weight on a strategy page, or of the live value on a portfolio. A strategy's Cap segment on the Marketplace comes from its sleeve universes: the widest one present.
The formula
Put each holding in a band by the index it belongs to, then add up the weights in each band.
Large cap: in NIFTY 100
Mid cap: in NIFTY MIDCAP 150 (ranks 101 to 250)
Small cap: in NIFTY SMALLCAP 250 (ranks 251 to 500)
Micro cap: in NIFTY MICROCAP 250
Other: ETFs, funds, outside these indices, or no class data
Band share = sum of the weights in the band (portfolio: live value)Worked example
Example only
- 30 names in NIFTY 100 at 1.5% each: 45% large cap
- 20 names in NIFTY MIDCAP 150 at 1.5% each: 30% mid cap
- A gold ETF at 25%: Other
How to read it
- Read the strip beside the strategy's universe: an all cap strategy can lean either way.
- Other on a multi asset portfolio is often its ETFs.
- Sectors, beside Market cap, groups the same weights by sector.
Watch out
- Bands follow index membership, which NSE reviews twice a year.
- Other also holds stocks with no class data; the Sectors view calls those Unclassified.
- The index lines in Compare are price indices: dividends are not added.
