The Invest and Top up sheets, Live with 5paisa, when your broker offers it for that strategy: Boost with MTF margin funding. The Rebalance sheet of an MTF portfolio carries a margin note. The Marketplace Theme filter has Margin (MTF).
Index in this video: Large Cap Multi Asset (the sample portfolio).
What it means
MTF is your broker's margin trading facility: a loan from the broker to buy more than your own money buys. When the broker quotes it, the sheet offers to invest up to a maximum, with the multiple of your own amount. Turning it on shows a slider from your own amount to that maximum in Rs 1,000 steps, the Total, the broker's terms and I accept the MTF terms. With it on, the amount booked is the Total, and the broker cash check compares only your own part. On an MTF portfolio the rebalance sheet warns when a rebalance would pass the strategy's leverage cap.
The formula
Total = your own money + the broker's loan. The gain or the loss is on the total; your broker charges interest on the loan.
Slider: Total, from your own amount to the broker's maximum, Rs 1,000 steps
Multiple shown = maximum / your own amount
Your result = total x market move, less interest and charges, on your own money
Broker cash check: your own part onlyWorked example
Example only
- Own money Rs 1,00,000; Total Rs 2,00,000 with MTF
- Stocks rise 10%: +Rs 20,000, 20% on your own money
- Stocks fall 10%: -Rs 20,000, -20%, before interest
How to read it
- The block shows only when your broker quotes MTF for that strategy and amount.
- The Total is what is booked; your own part rides inside it.
- Shares bought with the loan carry an MTF badge in the Quantity cell.
Watch out
- Borrowed money makes a loss larger in the same way it makes a gain larger.
- Interest, pledge and margin calls follow your broker's terms; the app does not compute them.
- I accept the MTF terms is an agreement with your broker; this video never ticks it.
