Where it is

ScreenDashboardBasic

The Dashboard tabs All, Live, Practice and Archived; each card says Practice or Live in its meta line. On a desktop the line under the tabs reads "Showing practice portfolios. No real orders are placed."

What it means

A Practice portfolio follows the strategy with no broker: every order fills at once at the requested price, there is no session to expire and no cash limit, and nothing is retried. It can still stop when a stock has no live price. A Live portfolio sends real orders to your broker, so it can meet an expired session, short cash, a rejected order or an order still open at the close. The same buttons appear on both (Resume, Cancel order), and on a Practice portfolio they act only on RupeeCase's own books.

The formula

Practice: instant fills at the requested price, no broker. Live: the broker fills, refuses or leaves an order open.

As computed in the RupeeCase app
Practice: no session, no cash limit, fills at once; can stop only when a price is missing
Live: session, cash or margin, broker rejections, open orders
Both: only during the trading window, 09:20 to 15:10 IST on weekdays

Worked example

Example only

  • Same strategy, Rs 1,00,000 in Practice and in Live
  • Practice: every order filled at once
  • Live: 1 buy rejected for funds; the portfolio needs attention

How to read it

  • A Practice card never shows a broker name.
  • The stale order check on a Practice portfolio says no real broker order exists.
  • Practice results show how the app works, not what a broker would have filled.

Watch out

  • Outside market hours the server refuses Practice actions too, though the sheet's words mention only Live.
  • Live fills can differ from the price on screen; Practice fills cannot.
  • Practice access can end with its trial; the app then asks you to use Live.
